Record Precise Measurements With a Welding Gauge
The welding gauge is used to accurately measure the welds of varying sizes more quickly and easily. Operators usually make use of a welding gauge to measure the size of the joints, angle of the bevel, the width of preparation, root gap as well as the smooth contact between the weld and base material.
Types of welding gauge
We work with Niigata Seiki to supply welding gauge of varied sizes to meet different industrial needs. Based on the requirements of construction, materials are welded at different angles and this gives rise to different sizes of welds. To ensure the angle accuracy of these welds, different types of welding gauges must be used to measure them. As any defect in the weld can compromise the quality of the product being worked on, the welds produced must be to precision.
The standard fillet weld gauge has been regarded as the easiest instrument to use. It helps users check if the weld is concave so that they can adjust the weld to make it flatter and slightly convex. The AWS gauge is more versatile than the standard gauge as the tool automatically determines the convexity and concavity of the weld. To measure flat weld seams and fillet welds at an angle of 60 to 90 degrees, the sliding weld seam gauge is usually used. Users who require a welding gauge with more functions can select the multi-purpose gauge that measures excess weld, the depth of the undercut and pitting, as well as the throat size and length of the fillet weld. The gauge also helps to identify any type of misalignment in the weld.
